The creative process

The question I am most frequently asked is how long does it take me to do one of my paintings?

This is impossible to answer. Each work takes many hours, running into days and weeks. Initially
there are the preparatory studies made and where applicable, personal photographic evidence sought.

The canvas is personally prepared and referencing my studies, I will draw, using a pen to provide me with a simple guide which I will then adjust as I proceed with the painting.

This is evidenced in the time-lapse photos, which clearly show how the painting develops through to it’s conclusion. Splintered III, the third in a small series of paintings, was drawn again from life after observing the shattered Spanish oak.
